History

Better Way 2
In 1996, a task force of professionals and community leaders identified a serious problem with the response to child victims of physical or sexual abuse. While well intentioned, the process required children to participate in repeated interviews by different agencies, causing further emotional trauma. The task force determined there was a more sensitive and effective way, and Kimberly’s Center for Child Protection (Marion County’s Children’s Advocacy Center) was established.

As a result, child victims now have a safe and comforting environment where they receive one interview and exam conducted by compassionate professionals who specialize in the care of children. After the necessary process of obtaining facts and information to be utilized in the prosecution of their abusers, Kimberly’s Center remains in the child’s life serving as their source for healing.
